During the second IPL 2025 qualifier on June 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Hardik Pandya and Shreyas Iyer were punished for the slow over rates of the Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings, respectively. Iyer and company suffered their second such incident of the season, while Hardik Pandya and MI endured their third, which resulted in a variety of penalties following their game.
Due to the weather stoppage, the match by default began later than scheduled following the toss. All forty overs of the match could be played because of a buffer of a few more hours to begin the play without losing any overs. It was difficult for both teams to sustain above rates.
Iyer received a sentence of INR 24 lakh, while the other PBKS members received fines of INR 6 lakh or 25% of the match fees, whichever was lower. Hardik also received a fine of INR 30 lakh, while the other MI members received fines of INR 12 lakh or 50% of the match fees, whichever was lower.
How is Hardik Pandya exempt from the 2026 IPL match suspension?
In contrast to the last edition, Hardik Pandya won’t be suspended for the 2026 IPL. In MI’s final IPL 2024 encounter, Hardik received a one-match suspension after the team had several instances of slow over rates.
Consequently, MI faced CSK in their opening league game of the 18th edition without their captain. But thanks to a change, that regulation is no longer in effect, and Pandya is allowed to participate in MI’s opening IPL 2026 match.
But according to the ICC Code of Conduct, Hardik has been docked two penalty points. According to the recently modified rule, a player, referee, or other official’s record is monitored for 36 months before any action is taken.
