In a contentious situation, Harbhajan Singh, a former cricket player for India, has now defended Pandya. The Mumbai Indians’ performance in the Indian Premier League 2024 has been lackluster. They only managed four victories in 14 games, which put them at the bottom of the standings. Hardik Pandya, the captain of MI, has been under fire from both fans and analysts for his abysmal leadership abilities.
Prior to the 2024 Indian Premier League, Pandya was traded by the Gujarat Titans to MI in an unprecedented deal. He was then demoted to captain of Mumbai, replacing Rohit Sharma. The crowd sent out a tremendous yell, and the jeers went all the way to the floor.
As a member of the MI team, Harbhajan Singh expressed confidence in Pandya and the management to make a significant comeback in the upcoming season.
“MI’s squad is quite large. I tried my best to earn it. The team is well-run and under excellent management. But it turned out to be a bad idea. Perhaps the idea was to focus on the future. The team did not appear cohesive, thus it appears that it did not sit well with them. It was inevitable. According to NDTV Sports, Harbhajan stated, “It hurts to see such a big team, an old team of mine face such poor results.”
“Perhaps the decision was made at the wrong time. A year later, this choice might have been made more wisely. It’s hardly Hardik’s fault; in GT, he was an excellent captain. Regardless of the captain, it is the older players’ responsibility to maintain team unity. Captains are not permanent. They didn’t play as a cohesive unit,” he continued.

With the IPL 2024 coming to a conclusion and the playoffs approaching, attention will soon turn to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Indian team has been announced for the June 2 start of the major event. The team will be captained by Rohit Sharma, with Pandya serving as vice captain. When players like Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh were left off of the 15-man roster, not many people seemed to be concerned.
