After making a successful switch to Tripura for the 2025–2026 season, former Andhra and current Indian cricketer Hanuma Vihari recently stated that he believes he still has the ability to play all three formats.
The Andhra Cricket Association has given Hanuma Vihari a No Objection Certificate.
The Kakinada native revealed that he did not participate in the previous Vijay Hazare Trophy because the ACA made it apparent that they preferred to develop young players than retaining individuals his own age. And he believed that he needed to encounter a ‘fresh atmosphere’. The 31-year-old went on to say that playing game-changing innings for the team he plays for was his primary goal. By turning his experience into a tonne of runs, he emphasised the value of having fun while playing cricket.
Since I think I’m competent enough to play all three formats, I was eager for additional opportunities. For the T20 format, Andhra made it apparent that they were considering young players. I decided it was pointless to play even in the 50-over format because of this, and I also did not participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Hanuma Vihari said, “I also wanted to play in a new environment,” according to ESPNcricinfo.

“I have the task of leading the squad to victory. I’ve played First-Class cricket for 14–15 years, so I definitely have experience that I want to share. However, I’m not considering a comeback at this time. The distance is too great. I want to lead the team to victory by scoring significant runs. I really want to enjoy playing cricket and making tonnes of runs more than anything else. He went on.
Despite playing 131 First-Class matches and representing India in 16 Test matches thus far, Hanuma Vihari has not yet been assured of taking over as Tripura’s captain. In the 2025–2026 season, the northeastern state will compete in the Elite tier in both the red and white-ball forms. On October 15, they will play Services in the Ranji Trophy match to start the season.
