'Kohli needs to be in a good state of mind'- Hanuma Vihari backs star batter to come good down under

Virat Kohli is struggling at the bat, as seen by his below-average performances in both of the first Test match’s innings against Bangladesh in Chennai. After scoring 17 runs in the second inning, the right-handed batter left the game after scoring six runs in the first. However, Hanuma Vihari, a former cricketer for India, has endorsed Kohli to lose the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

Despite scoring 17 runs in the second inning and seemed comfortable, Kohli was incorrectly declared leg before wicket. The supporters harshly condemned the call because the batter did not appear confident and did not take a DRS. While acknowledging that the hitter is not performing at his peak, Vihari also mentioned that mental turbulence is a common occurrence for batters.

Hanuma Vihar stated, as cited by Times Now, “We know when the real Test comes he will stand up, so India shouldn’t be concerned about his form.”

“Not essential, in my opinion. Virat Kohli must have a positive mindset. I am aware that he hasn’t played in the Tests in a while. His responsibilities kept him from the England Test series. However, it takes some time to get back into the pattern, regain that mental space, and return to Tests after a break.

As part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India will be visiting Australia for the five-match Test series. On November 22, India will play their first Test match at Optus Stadium in Perth to start their campaign.

It is noteworthy that India lifted the BGT in 2019 and won the first Test series in Australia in 71 years under Kohli’s leadership. India is defending the trophy after winning 2-1 over Australia in 2023.
