As they prepare to travel to India for a five-game series against the team captained by Rohit Sharma, England England bowler Gus Atkinson revealed his enthusiasm to play against India in the series. The two teams are scheduled to play each other in the opening Test of the series starting on January 25.
According to Gus Atkinson, he is eager to work with Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum. He also said that the two trips that a player most wants to take part in are those to India and Australia for the Ashes.
Notably, Gus Atkinson efforts in the County Championship last summer earned him a spot in the England team for the India trip. James Anderson, Ollie Robinson, and Mark Wood are the visitors’ pacers; the 25-year-old’s real pace will be a nice addition.
“It’s been excellent. Now I’m looking forward to playing under Ben Stokes and Baz (head coach Brendon McCullum). The way the Australian squad has been playing is ideal for my style of play. Gus Atkinson also praised the role that playing county cricket for Surrey had in restoring his confidence. The pacer claimed that the club gave him the much-needed conviction that he could represent the national team across forms, and that the club saw something in him that he himself could not.
“Surrey has treated me really well. What I didn’t see in myself early on, others saw. Alec Stewart recalled that he had noticed something about me and that I had genuine speed off the wicket the first time he saw me bowling before I signed,” Gus Atkinson remarked.
