IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans set to play first few home games at newly-built stadium in Vadodara

The fans can’t wait for the exciting event to start now that the IPL Mega Auction for the 2025 season is over. Due to their strong performances in the three seasons they have played, the Gujarat Titans, one of the league’s clubs, have quickly grown their fan base.

With then-captain Hardik Pandya leading the team, the team made their IPL debut in 2022 and, to everyone’s astonishment, won on their first try. They advanced to the finals of the subsequent tournament, although losing to Chennai Super Kings in the last balls of the summit match that took place in Ahmedabad’s massive Narendra Modi Stadium.

Interestingly, the lovely location—the Titans’ home field in the tournament—has made headlines once more. At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Gujarat Titans is probably not going to play its first two IPL 2025 games. Rather, the team will play its first home games at the recently constructed Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.

The schedule of the third edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is the cause of this change. It has been reported that two cities, Ahmedabad (Motera) and Lucknow (Ekana), will host the WPL in a few phases.

With the second phase anticipated to take place in Gujarat’s most popular city and the tournament’s final scheduled for March 9, less than a week before the IPL’s intended start date of March 14,

The Gujarat Titans may consider holding their first home games in Vadodara.

The decision isn’t shocking because the Delhi Capitals’ first two home games were played in Vizag, Andhra Pradesh, rather than at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, one of the cities hosting the 2024 World Premier League. The reason for this was the logistical and infrastructure difficulties in preparing the Kotla ground for the Indian Premier League in a timely manner. The Gujarat Titans, captained by cricketing sensation Shubman Gill, will therefore probably go the same path in the forthcoming season.

About Vadodara’s Kotambi Stadium

The newest international venue in India is the Kotambi Stadium, also called the Baroda International Cricket Stadium, located in Vadodara. The most recent location can accommodate about 40,000 spectators. A few domestic matches have already taken place at the stadium; the most recent ones were Baroda’s home games during the Ranji Trophy 2024–25.

During the West Indies Women’s visit of India, the ground was supposed to host a whole international series for the three ODIs. However, due to last-minute issues, the games had to be moved to the Reliance Stadium, which is around 25 miles off Kotambi.
