The ODI World Cup 2023 will get underway on October 5 in India, which is just around the corner. It goes without saying that the Australian team is among the best-positioned to make a good run at the coveted championship. However, due to several key players missing recent matches due to fitness difficulties, the team is currently going through a rough patch in terms of fitness. Glenn Maxwell, a star all-around player, has indicated that if he wants to compete effectively in the upcoming competition, he must be diligent with his preparation.

Notably, Maxwell had to withdraw from the just-finished T20I series between Australia and South Africa because of pain in his ankle. Additionally, Glenn Maxwell added that he would like to be healthy for Australia’s ODI series against India before the World Cup. “I still want to participate in that India series in some capacity, but I don’t feel any pressure to do so.

The judges and the staff have treated me superbly as well. They realize they have some extra time before the World Cup, so they don’t want to put too much pressure on me to sort of fix that date. Glenn Maxwell was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying, “So instead of rushing it and maybe putting myself a week or two behind, I was able to give myself more time and make sure we went through the whole competition.

In order to further examine his fitness, the 34-year-old will also meet with Cricket Australia’s medical team on Monday, September 4. He will get better advice from the staff about when to fly into India for the World Cup and the series.

“I don’t believe I could have anticipated how sore I would feel once I arrived in South Africa, but it was one of those things. I felt great even when I went to train that day. Nothing was incorrect. Just now, something impacted. I believe that one of the tendons around my ankle was slightly swollen and inflamed and kept catching. As a result, I experienced a little discomfort.
