On Tuesday, November 7, Australia and Afghanistan took part in a vital ODI World Cup 2023 match in Mumbai. The ‘Blue Tigers’ gave the five-time champions a serious match, but Glenn Maxwell incredible double century helped Australia emerge victorious from the jaws of defeat.

The captivating all-round player assisted Australia in rallying from 91/7 to pursue a formidable 292 target in the 47th over. In the amazing innings, he hammered 10 sixes and 21 fours while staying undefeated at 201 off 128 balls. The 35-year-old’s struggles with cramping and a damaged back only made the blow seem much more severe. Following his historic three-wicket victory over Australia, Maxwell attempted to articulate his emotions. He disclosed that at one point, in order to get therapy, he considered being retired hurt.

“I’m kind of numb to it right now since it’s so new. It was a lot of joy. I had the impression that Pat Cummins and I were the only ones enjoying fun outside. Over the next several days, I’ll probably think about it more. Hopefully, I’ll heal and regain some movement in my calves and hamstrings. According to ESPNcricinfo, Glenn Maxwell told reporters, “It’s pretty raw right now.”

“We discussed taking a break, working on my back, and trying to loosen up my legs a little.” It would be extremely difficult for you to descend the stairs again after that, the physiotherapist added. It probably simplified the task a little.

Next, we decided to see how long we could stay at the same end, or until we could at least walk to the other end in the event that there was an easy single. However, for a time, it didn’t really matter what happened on the other end as long as I could gain one or two boundaries from them. because at that point, we had it down to a run-a-ball. It wasn’t all simply frantic swinging; there was some forethought,” Maxwell stated.

I thought I could push the boundaries against the others as long as Rashid Khan remained out of the game: Glenn Maxwell

The biggest threat, according to Glenn Maxwell, was Afghan spinner Rashid Khan, a talisman who would be played out.

“We were aware that Rashid would bowl with perhaps eighteen balls remaining in the final thirteen overs, or roughly that amount. I thought I could push the boundaries with the others as long as we kept him out of the game. Therefore, the main goal was to neutralize him and prevent him from taking a shot at the remaining tail. We’d be fine if we could keep him away from the game’s backend,” Maxwell remarked.

The right-handed batter claimed that following their defeats in their opening two games, many had written off the Australians. Having won six straight, he was ecstatic to go to the semi-finals.

It’s been a hectic few weeks. Since my family has arrived, [it’s]. A strange couple of weeks have passed. I’m quite appreciative that I could return here and make the semifinals. Consider that most people were on the verge of writing us off after the first two games. It’s fantastic to be in the semifinals and hopefully enjoy a few days in Pune. We didn’t play at our best today against a very competitive opposition, but it’s nice to be able to put six wins together at the appropriate time. “I’ll avoid the golf carts,” Maxwell continued.
