Glenn Maxwell doesn’t deserve the opportunity to play Test cricket: David Warner

Glenn Maxwell, the star all-rounder for Australia, stated that he would be eager to play in the forthcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. He didn’t play any additional games, however he did play in the Sheffield Shield match against Queensland earlier in the year. In light of this, former international David Warner pointed out that Maxwell’s lack of red-ball cricket expertise makes it challenging for him to establish himself in Australia’s Test team.

The southpaw clarified that Maxwell might have been mentioned if he had participated in more Sheffield Shield games, but that he currently has nothing to offer and doesn’t deserve to be included in the team. He said that getting into the Test squad requires more than just raising your hand and confirming your availability; you also need to work hard.

“Why do you deserve it if you aren’t selected for your shield team? To play four-day cricket, you must genuinely desire to do it. If he wants to play Test cricket, he’s playing all the club cricket stuff and stuff, unless he’s putting his hand up. “I don’t think he deserves that chance,” Warner told Code Sport.

“You can’t keep raising your hand and saying, ‘I want to play just that,'” in my opinion. It’s like me saying, “I just want to play in Australia,” he continued, “and you have to be seen as wanting to put in the effort, work hard, and accomplish that.”

Glenn Maxwell has only played in seven Australian Test matches.

Notably, Glenn Maxwell has scored 339 runs at an average of 26.07 in seven Test matches during his career. In 2017, he faced Bangladesh in his final Test match. Star spinner Adam Zampa has also raised his hands to indicate that he is available for the series against Sri Lanka, in addition to Maxwell. Maxwell and Warner, meanwhile, will both play in the Big Bash League’s next season, which starts on December 31.
