PAK vs BAN 2024: Gillespie accepts Bangladesh as the 'favourites' but wants Pakistan to fight

The fourth day of the ongoing exhibition between Bangladesh and Pakistan finished in the visitors’ advantage as Najmul Shanto and company were poised to record a perfect record against Pakistan. After winning the first Test by ten wickets at the same location, Bangladesh needed to score another 143 runs to win the series 2-0 at stumps on day four.

In just his maiden assignment, Pakistan’s head coach Jason Gillespie has faced a once-in-a-lifetime experience. On the last day, he urged his bowlers to exhibit greater discipline, saying that “we’ve already lost if we walk out there expecting to lose,” even though he acknowledged Bangladesh as “favourites.”

“We don’t deny that Bangladesh has a better chance of winning; nevertheless, if we go into the game with the intention of losing, we’ve already lost. We know we can have an impact with the ball if we bowl really effectively since we took 6 for 26 in the opening innings, Gillespie added.

Talked to our bowlers about being strict and brutal: Jason Gillespie

Bangladesh is anticipated to continue performing as they have in the two series games thus far, which have both been outstanding. Gillespie said that he had discussed being brutal and rigorous with his bowlers prior to the fifth day of play.

We’ve discussed with our bowlers the importance of being brutal, disciplined, and bowling with intent, but we just abandoned our plan. I’ve made some harsh challenges to the bowlers regarding this. Test cricket can get away from you, so we need to make sure we’re on every single time. The opponent is formidable, and I won’t hold back in stating that Bangladesh performed admirably.

Without a doubt. However, I’m confident that our bowlers can do better than what they did in that circumstance; all we need to do is make sure that every time, our execution is flawless,” Gillespie stated.
