In India’s three-match series against New Zealand, ODI captain Shubman Gill thinks the squad will benefit greatly from the extensive experience of star hitters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. On January 11, the three-match series is set to start.
Gill said that even he has benefited from Rohit and Kohli’s advice when things don’t go according to plan on the pitch. The top-order batsman thanked the Indian team for having two players of Rohit and Kohli’s ability.
“With Virat bhai as one of the greatest ODI batters ever and Rohit as one of the greatest openers of all time, having these two individuals on your team undoubtedly makes your life much easier.” You can always go to them and see how they are thinking or what they would do if you are in a difficult scenario because they have experienced similar circumstances numerous times in their lives.
Gill was cited by ESPNcricinfo as saying, “This information is very valuable for any captain.”
The 26-year-old talked about how difficult it was to be sidelined after suffering an injury that prevented him from playing in important games. He was eager to return on the pitch, though, and was upbeat about the next series.
It’s never easy, of course, especially when you’re wounded and feel like you’re missing out on all the games your team plays, especially if you were just appointed captain. There are a lot of things you want to do, and when you start, it can be really irritating. However, you simply need to concentrate on what you need to do right now and build from there,” he continued.
After suffering an injury in the opening game at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Gill was unable to play in the second Test as well as the ODI and T20I series against the Proteas. After suffering a neck injury, the Punjab cricket player had to recuperate for a bit before suffering a foot ailment that was made worse by food sickness.
India’s ODIs will take place in Rajkot, Indore, and Vadodara. Gill has not been chosen to play in the series against the Kiwis in the Twenty20 International format. Additionally, he is not included in the team for the forthcoming T20 World Cup. In terms of Twenty20 Internationals, Gill’s lacklustre 2025 was sufficient for the BCCI to fire him.
