Indian skipper Shubman Gill said wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant’s finger injury is not significant and he should be available for the next Test in Manchester. Pant damaged his left index finger while collecting a Jasprit Bumrah delivery in England’s first innings at Lord’s.
He finished the over but did not keep wickets again. Pant played both innings despite the injury, while substitute Dhruv Jurel took over wicket-keeping. The Three Lions won the third Test by 22 runs to lead the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 2-1.
Rishabh had scans and found no severe injuries. “I think he should be fine for the next test match,” Gill told reporters, per DD News.
Pant is the second-highest Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy run-scorer with 425 runs from six innings, including two centuries. He trails only skipper, who has 607 runs in three Tests. Therefore, his availability is important for the Indian squad, which is trailing 1-2 in the five-match series with two more games.
The two teams admire each other: Gill
The hard-fought third Test at Lord’s, London, was tense. After dismissing England opener Ben Duckett, Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj was fined and given one demerit point. Gill said the series was spiced up by the heated moments, but both teams respected each other on the pitch.
“You’re giving everything physically and mentally, so there will be moments of heat from both sides. That’s what makes it thrilling and difficult. We’ll play each other again without bad blood. The two squads admire one other, Gill added.
On July 23, Old Trafford in Manchester will host the fourth Test. India hopes to tie the series 2-2, while the hosts want to win.
