After Rohit Sharma’s term ends, Mohammad Kaif thinks Shubman Gill is prepared to assume leadership as India’s next ODI captain. In the just finished Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy match against England, the 25-year-old assumed the role of India’s Test captain. As the series finished 2-2, he led a somewhat inexperienced team from the front.
Kaif was struck by Gill’s poise and tranquilly as a skipper. The former cricket player for India said that Gill was under a lot of strain because of his unsatisfactory batting numbers in the run-up to the series. The cricket player-turned-commentator, however, was happy with the way the young player handled his duties as captain and hitter.
Gill is prepared to assume control. White-ball is where he scores.
“He was a very composed skipper. Under duress, he led with poise. Since we don’t know how long Rohit Sharma would be captain, he will also be given the ODI captaincy. He led from the front and did a good job as captain here in Test matches. You have to be both a good batsman and a good captain when you play with a young squad. Overall, it was a fantastic tour for him,” Kaif posted on his YouTube account.
Gill was the top run scorer at the end of the five-match series. In 10 innings, he scored 754 runs at an average of 75.40. At Edgbaston, Birmingham, the Punjab batsman hit four hundreds, including a career-high 269 in the opening innings of the second Test.
“As captain, Shubman Gill used both hands to create opportunities during this series.” Given his Test record, there were many people who questioned why he was appointed captain. With a young team and a lot of pressure, a young captain arrived in England. He responded with his bat, and he was likened to smashing Sir Don Bradman’s record at one time. “Such a powerful batsman comeback,” he continued.
