Gill Out of Kolkata Test; Pant Named India Captain

The first Test match between South Africa and India, which is now taking place at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, will not feature Shubman Gill. Three balls into his stay at the crease, the India captain had to retire and make his way back to the dressing room due to neck soreness he had sustained when batting on the second day.

Regarding his injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India released an official statement. In Gill’s absence, Rishabh Pant will serve as the Indian team’s acting captain. The team management has also confirmed that Gill will not be able to participate in the rest of the Test match but will be closely monitored by the BCCI’s medical professionals at Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata.

On Day 2 of the current Test match against South Africa in Kolkata, captain Shubman Gill sustained a neck injury. After the play of the day, he was brought to the hospital for inspection. He is being monitored at the hospital right now. He will not participate in the Test match any more. The BCCI medical staff will continue to keep an eye on him, the organisation announced in a formal statement prior to play on Day 3.

The South Africans were 93 for seven wickets at the close of the second innings of play on Day 2. At the crease, captain Temba Bavuma bats with Corbin Bosch, and they presently lead by 63 runs. With four wickets already, Ravindra Jadeja has been the standout bowler for India. In the second innings, Kuldeep Yadav has also made a contribution by taking a few wickets.

On the third day, the Indians will be looking to finish the Proteas unit as soon as possible in order to reduce their target on the dry and challenging Eden Gardens surface. On the other hand, Bavuma will be determined to continue the game as long as possible with the help of tail-enders when the third day begins.
