During the second Test match against the West Indies on October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Indian Test captain Shubman Gill had a momentary scare after running into Tevin Imlach. By the end of Day 1, India was comfortably ahead in the second match, having already taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series.
The event happened when Anderson Phillip bowled Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in the 85th over. A diving fielder to Jaiswal’s right made a fast stop after he flicked a delivery firmly towards the mid-wicket area. Gill and Jaiswal both ran between the wickets, trying a fast single. However, the throw to the wicketkeeper’s end was errant, and Gill struck Imlach as he attempted to avoid it, causing the ball to brush the Indian captain’s shoulder.
While medical personnel treated to both players, there was a slight delay. Following such incidents, a concussion test was performed in accordance with normal protocol.
There were smiles on the ground when Jaiswal playedfully gave Gill a simulated concussion exam.

With 318/2 at the close of the first day’s play, India had established a dominant position. Gill had previously won the toss and chosen to bat first, a move that paid off. While Jaiswal dominated the West Indian bowling attack with a spectacular 173 not out off 253 balls, including 22 boundaries, Sai Sudharsan played a cool knock of 87 runs.
KL Rahul put in a solid 38 runs, and Gill finished the game undefeated at 20. Jomel Warrican was the only bowler for the visitors to take wickets on the opening day, finishing with statistics of 2 for 60. The rest of the West Indian attack, however, found it difficult to get anything out of a Delhi surface that was hot and level.
The batters should once again dominate on the second day, which is predicted to follow a similar pattern. Jaiswal will try to accomplish yet another goal, and Gill wants to add more noteworthy experiences to his increasing list.
