Gill Enjoys Rain Break Popcorn with Rohit Sharma

In the rain-shortened first ODI against Australia in Perth on Sunday, October 19, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill took some time to unwind. India was behind early in the match as the Australian pace attack had quickly dismissed both batters before the game was stopped.

For the second time in the first ODI, rain caused the match to be stopped for more than half an hour. While munching popcorn during the break, Rohit and Gill were spotted having fun in the midst of the stressful situation while gazing out over the Perth ground from the glass pavilion. A temporary break from the game’s tension and an opportunity to regroup were provided by their playful break.

This video shows Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma enjoying popcorn during the first ODI.

Shreyas Iyer (6)* and Axar Patel (7)* were at the crease as India reached 37/3 in 11.5 overs at the time of the break. Josh Hazlewood had egged a delivery to second slip, where Matt Renshaw had made a fine catch, dismissing Rohit Sharma for eight runs.

Shortly later, Mitchell Starc got rid of Virat Kohli for a duck, the first in 30 ODI innings on Australian soil. Cooper Connolly caught him at backward point while he was trying to make a powerful cover drive. A short while later, Nathan Ellis removed Indian skipper Shubman Gill on the first delivery, the inside edge reaching wicketkeeper Josh Philippe.

With India at 37/3, all eyes were on Iyer and Axar, who will have to stay at the crease for a while in order to steady the innings and put the side back in the game. In the meantime, the Australian bowling attack will try to take advantage of the wet circumstances by creating more movement on the pitch and getting rid of the remaining Indian hitters for little money.
