Gilchrist Unimpressed with Babar’s Approach vs Renegades

After the Pakistani player achieved a calm half-century in the Sydney Sixers’ six-wicket victory over the Melbourne Renegades, Adam Gilchrist said that Babar Azam should try to be more dynamic.

The Renegades set a goal of 165 for the Sydney Sixers on Thursday, January 1. After scoring just 71 runs in his first four innings of the season, Babar Azam went deep to score an undefeated 58 off 46 balls, including one six and four fours. It took the right-handed batter 41 balls to reach his half-century. With five balls remaining, the Sixers reached home thanks to his final strike rate of 126.09.

Gilchrist advised the former captain of Pakistan to put pressure on his batting mates by not being satisfied with scoring runs each ball.

“Babar’s game isn’t known for having a lot of power. He won’t drag one over the boundary for a six and hoick across the line. He must take the initiative. Gilchrist was heard saying on-air, “He can’t just think run a ball and put all the responsibility on his batting partner to get the job done.”

Adam Gilchrist also called out Babar Azam slow batting in T20s during today’s match.
• His limited power range restricts his boundary options.
• He must be proactive himself, not outsource the SR.

Babar scored his 97th T20 half-century on Thursday at Melbourne’s Docklands Stadium after being recently left out of Pakistan’s selection for the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Sean Abbott produced a brilliant stint earlier in the day, taking three wickets and giving up only sixteen runs in four overs. After that, he was named Player of the Match.

The Sixers went to No. 5 in the points standings after this victory. After two wins and three losses, they now have four points. On Monday, January 5, the Moises Henriques-led team will play their first game back at the International Sports Stadium in Coffs Harbour against the Brisbane Heat.
