Pat Cummins was expected to take a sabbatical from cricket after the T20 World Cup, thus Australia decided not to name the seamer for the series against Scotland and England. George Bailey’s ambitions for the pacer do not align with the 31-year-old’s decision to play for the San Francisco Unicorns in the Major League Cricket (MLC) second season.
Regarding the same, Australia’s head selector stated that Cummins’s move to the MLC was only temporary and that he won’t be negatively impacted by playing a few extra days. Given that the captain of Australia played every game in the Ashes, the ODI World Cup, the Indian Premier League, and the T20 World Cup, the 41-year-old is aware of how difficult the last 12 months have been for him.
George Bailey anticipates that Pat Cummins will take a vacation following the MLC and get ready for India’s summer tour of Australia, where they will play a five-match series that could determine the outcome of the World Test Championship final.
“Considering the series we are prioritising and how important he is to us as a leader, we have been arranging something for him and with him for over a year. That was the opening. It was a late opportunity for MLC. Regarding the plan, it’s just an additional 18 or 19 days that he is available; it doesn’t really alter the strategy we have in place for him, according to a Yahoo Sport remark from Bailey.
