Gautam Gambhir will take charge of the Indian team’s coaching duties for the forthcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. The former Indian cricket player and BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar attended a press conference prior to India’s departure for the adjacent nation.
The two former players discussed their plans to work together to mould Indian cricket’s future during the press conference. Gambhir, who will take on the role of head coach for the first time, emphasised the value of granting the players autonomy. In addition, he hoped that the players would have faith in him.
“I think it’s vital to allow athletes their freedom; that’s something I firmly believe in, as opposed to a head coach and player having a relationship. In my opinion, the most ideal kind of connection is one that is based on trust, and that is going to be crucial. The lads will always have my back, I can assure you of that,” Gambhir stated during the press conference.
A winning dressing room is one that is filled with happiness: Gambhir
“A happy dressing room is a winning dressing room,” the 42-year-old reiterated. He hoped that he and the other support personnel would do their part to keep the players safe and the dressing happy.
“A happy dressing room is a winning dressing room, as I have always stated. It is my job and the support staff’s combined responsibility to ensure that the dressing room is a cheerful and safe place. I don’t want to complicate things or make them too complicated,” Gambhir remarked.

A three-match Twenty20 International series in Pallekele will kick off India’s campaign in Sri Lanka on Saturday, July 27. The following two games are scheduled for July 28 and July 30, respectively. The teams will square off in a three-match ODI series in Colombo after the T20Is. The dates of the games are August 2, 4, and 7, in that order.
