"I have never cried like that before or after that, and I don't know why," remarked Gambhir.

"I sobbed the whole night," Gautam Gambhir says of India's 1992 World Cup loss to Australia.

Former cricket player Gautam Gambhir said he grieved all night long as Australia won the 1992 ODI World Cup over India by a single run. The team captained by Allan Border batted first and got off to a cautious start. Australia was put on the back foot when Mark Taylor and Geoff Marsh were removed by Kapil Dev, but things rapidly turned around when David Bon and Dean Jones started to bat. Australia made 237 runs in the first innings, with Boon scoring 43 and Jones scoring 90.

Kris Srikkanth was unable to begin his chase career because of India’s incredibly slow start. At that point, Mohammad Azharuddin took charge and scored 93 runs on 102 balls. The Men in Blue were under more strain since he was not receiving adequate help from the opposite end. Sanjay Manjrekar scored 47 runs off of 42 deliveries towards the end, but it was insufficient. The fact that Manjrekar and Azharuddin were both out hurt the Indian supporters much more.

Gautam Gambhir recalled that, saying he never wept that much since he truly wanted India to win the trophy in 1992.

They had an abject campaign finale, finishing eighth in the nine-team competition. The former cricket player for India, nevertheless, was delighted that his dream—in which he played a crucial part—came true in 2011.

“I wanted to win the World Cup for India after watching a match.” I was sobbing the entire night of the 1992 Brisbane World Cup match between Australia and India, which India lost by a single run. OneCricket cited Gambhir as stating, “I have never cried like that before or after that, and I don’t know why.”

That was when I was eleven years old. I sobbed the whole night and declared my desire for India to win the World Cup. I was able to realise that dream in 2011 after having stated as much in 1992. I didn’t used to cry like that, but I would have felt unhappy before or after that match,” he continued.
