Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of Team India, has had a successful return to England in advance of the opening Test match at Headingley in Leeds. According to a number of reports, Gautam Gambhir mother is in much better health but has not yet totally recovered, which has given the head coach the go-ahead to return to the team for national duty.
Gautam Gambhir had returned to India to care for his mother, who had suffered a heart attack and was in the intensive care unit.
The Indian team arrived at the location for their first practice on June 18 with only a few days until the match day, and less than twenty-four hours after his check-in, Gautam Gambhir was seen with the team. Since over half of the team is participating in a series in the UK for the first time, the 43-year-old’s experience playing in England is crucial, thus his arrival is a significant boost for the Indian team.
The visiting team’s relatively inexperienced squad is also going through a significant transformation. Following the unexpected retirements of his predecessors, seasoned Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the selectors have named Shubman Gill the new captain of the red-ball team. This will be India’s first series with a new team, and Rishabh Pant will serve as Gill’s deputy.
India’s Leeds Test team now includes Harshit Rana.
Prior to the first Test, Harshit Rana was added to the Indian team’s roster. According to reports, the arrival of the pace bowler coincides with a number of players from the initial roster dealing with injury worries. Rana was ordered to stay back even after the tour was over, despite playing in a few matches against the England Lions and the intra-squad encounter versus the senior team. After the Headingley incident, he is now probably going home.
Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Karun Nair, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Akash Deep, Shardul Thakur, Abhimanyu Easwaran, B Sai Sudharsan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Dhruv Jurel, and Harshit Rana are the updated India squad (only for the first test).
