The Men in Blue, particularly in white-ball formats, have been invincible since Gautam Gambhir became head coach of India. Test cricket is still being worked on, as legends like Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli have announced their retirements to make room for younger players. On the other hand, India has been a formidable opponent in limited-overs cricket.
This year, under Gautam Gambhir utelage, India has won international competitions like as the Asia Cup and the Champions Trophy.
Gautam Gambhir has given the club a Spartan mindset, where losing is not an option and mediocrity is not tolerated, according to Varun Chakaravarthy, who was instrumental in both victories.
“I have worked with him in the IPL and we won that (in 2024), so (there is) nothing new to me because I have already been around him,” Chakravarthy said to reporters at the CEAT Cricket Rating awards.
One thing I can say about him, though, is that he instills in the team a Spartan mindset in which losing is not an option; you simply have to give it your all on the pitch and, in the end, whatever happens… He continued, “I feel that when he is around, there is no mediocrity; you can’t be mediocre in the field.”
Under Gautam Gambhir guidance, Chakaravarthy regained his skills at the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2024 Indian Premier League. The mystery spinner was recalled to the Indian team after a spectacular performance in the lucrative league. Since his return, Chakaravarthy has been playing at a high level and taking wickets when the team needed them.
Suryakumar Yadav and Gambhir, the captain of India’s Twenty20 International team, were also praised by Chakravarthy for providing him with a clear role upon his comeback, which increased his self-confidence and enabled him to play to the best of his skills.
He took seven wickets in six games during the Asia Cup, averaging 20.43 and claiming an economy rate of 6.50. Even though Chakaravarthy is not included in India’s team for the three-match ODI series against Australia, he will go to Australia before the tour’s T20I leg starts on October 29.
