In a lighthearted exchange at the Delhi Premier League (DPL) final, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir shocked fans by awarding various cricketing legends new nicknames with just one week until the Asia Cup 2025. Fans were immediately drawn to Gambhir’s use of the nickname “Desi Boy” to describe experienced batsman Virat Kohli during a quick-cut segment.
The former India opener was at ease throughout the occasion. He has been taking some time off from cricket after India had a month-long hiatus from international play. Gautam Gambhir acknowledged he hasn’t been watching much cricket lately, even while international matches like Australia vs. South Africa, the UAE Tri-Series, Sri Lanka vs. Zimbabwe, and Bangladesh vs. Netherlands were still taking place elsewhere.
Gautam Gambhir also gave titles to a number of Indian cricket legends during the exchange.
He labeled Shubman Gill the “Most Stylish,” Jasprit Bumrah “Speed,” and Sachin Tendulkar “Clutch.” He chose Rishabh Pant as the “Most Funny,” VVS Laxman as the “Run Machine,” and Zaheer Khan as the “Death Over Specialist.” Additionally, he referred to Nitish Rana as the “Golden Arm” and Rahul Dravid as “Mr. Consistent.”

“I haven’t seen much cricket because I’ve been at home, but it’s a fantastic opportunity for many of these lads to show off their skills. And DPL does an excellent job. Gautam Gambhir told the station, “They’ve done a great job of giving so many players such a platform to showcase their talent.”
Given how many children travel to Delhi to play cricket and how difficult the local contests are, I believe there will never be a talent shortage. Furthermore, I think Delhi has a lot to offer Indian cricket as well as Delhi cricket. And perhaps these youngsters will continue to show off their skills,” he continued.
