‘If they have an injury, it doesn't seem to affect them’- Gary Stead gives his thoughts on India ahead of Test series

The three-game Test series against New Zealand will now take the Indian team’s attention after the multi-format series against Bangladesh came to an end. On October 16, the opening Test of the series will take place in Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Gary Stead, the head coach of New Zealand, spoke up ahead of the series and praised team India for having adequate backups for nearly every player in case of injury.

In light of the kind of cricket that the Indian side plays at home, he further emphasised the significance of the series for the BlackCaps.

“They don’t seem to be as affected by injuries as other teams are. There’s another equally skilled person who could enter. They can summon a large number of people, but they are also a very skilled, seasoned crew with a large number of test caps. The issue that lies ahead of us is that they play a style of cricket that makes it very difficult for you over here, according to a remark from Stead.

He realised he hasn’t performed to his full potential: Keep going, Tim Southee.

In addition, Gary Stead discussed outstanding pacer Tim Southee’s recent performance. Tim Southee recently opened up about his difficulties in the longest format, and Stead disclosed that the team has been studying Southee’s footage to aid in his development.

Tim acknowledged in our chats that he hasn’t been at his best, but he has no intention of staying there. He’s putting in a lot of effort in the background, doing everything within his power to find that one item that he feels is lacking. We’ve watched a good deal of old footage of him performing in India and enjoying success.

Simply put, it’s about attempting to re-discover it and, as Stead put it, “find a little bit of what you could call a snap back into his action.”
