The goal of Gary Stead, who was named coach by Andhra for the 2025–2026 Ranji Trophy, is to handle the challenge. The Andhra Cricket Association has named Stead, the former head coach of next Zealand, as the next coach of the Andhra team.
Gary Stead acknowledged that he is venturing into uncharted area. Nevertheless, he expressed his excitement for the role and his intention to learn as much as he can from his experience competing in India’s top domestic competition.
I believe that after being in New Zealand, I’m not at home here. I am looking forward to the task that lies ahead, but I am also attempting to be a little more outspoken and, I suppose, uneasy in the role. According to Gary Stead, who was reported by The Indian Express, “I think it’s also a great opportunity to keep learning about my coaching as well.”
Gary Stead has a strong coaching background. He was in charge of New Zealand’s victories in the 2021 T20 World Cup finals, the 2025 Champions Trophy finals, and the 2019–21 World Test Championship cycle.
Many foreign coaches who have previously worked in Indian domestic cricket will be joining Gary Stead.
Michael Bevan, Shaun Williams, Intikhab Alam, Darren Holder, Dermott Reeve, Alvin Kallicharan, and Dav Whatmore are on the list.
Group A of the Ranji Trophy’s Elite division includes Andhra, Vidarbha, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Baroda, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Nagaland. Andhra will be a contender to go to the knockout stages with Ricky Bhui leading the team and a few seasoned players.
Andhra Pradesh’s campaign against Uttar Pradesh will begin at Kanpur’s Green Park. The game is set to start on Wednesday, October 15.
