Ganguly: Pretoria Capitals excited about long-term Brevis deal

"Our strategy focused heavily on domestic talent, from batsmen like Brevis to bowlers including Lungi Ngidi, Lizaad Williams, and Keshav Maharaj," he stated.

Ganguly: Pretoria Capitals excited about long-term Brevis deal

Ahead of the league’s upcoming season, SA20 India Day in Mumbai showcased franchise strategies and leadership. Sourav Ganguly, the head coach of the Pretoria Capitals, prioritised team building and hands-on involvement, while Tom Moody, the director of cricket for the Durban Super Giants, was enthusiastic about leaving a lasting legacy.

Sourav Ganguly, the head coach of the Pretoria Capitals, gave an explanation of his comeback to franchise cricket during “SA20 India Day.”

“After speaking with Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal, I became involved with the Pretoria Capitals. Dugout time was restricted under my BCCI president, despite the fact that I have managed every DC franchise and participated in team building activities in the past. I made the decision to focus entirely on Pretoria Capitals after working closely with Parth since 2018 and participating actively in this year’s SA20 auction. Since sports demand active participation, I’m committing for a whole month before moving on to IPL responsibilities.

When asked about the significance of homegrown players, Ganguly emphasised the value of choosing talent at the grassroots level because today’s rising stars will eventually become tomorrow’s heroes.

“Quality domestic players are extremely valuable in every competition. Even though Aiden Markram garnered a lot of interest, we’re especially thrilled about landing Dewald Brevis on a long-term basis because of his exceptional T20 performances for South Africa. From bowlers like Lungi Ngidi, Lizaad Williams, and Keshav Maharaj to hitters like Brevis, our approach placed a strong emphasis on homegrown talent. Local players were given priority by each team, including Ryan Rickelton with MI Cape Town, Aiden Markram with the Durban Super Giants, Faf du Plessis with the Johannesburg Super Kings, and David Miller with the Paarl Royals. The competitiveness of the entire league is increased by this allocation of elite domestic players among sides.

Tom Moody, Director of Cricket for Durban’s Super Giants, discussed his new position during “SA20 India Day”:

“After watching past seasons on TV, I’m truly thrilled to take in SA20’s lively atmosphere in person. Joining the Super Giants’ team leadership and contributing to the creation of a solid legacy that transcends South Africa and has an international influence on cricket is an honour.

He also discussed the value of leadership in their team, outlining why it is essential in the game’s shortest format.

“In T20 cricket, strong leadership is essential for both defining standards and making tactical choices. Aiden Markram, who has ties to our team from the IPL, leads from the front and has demonstrated strategic captaincy. Great leaders like Kane Williamson and Heinrich Klaasen support him, forming a leadership team that greatly improves our chances of winning the championship.

“The first step to success is smart hiring that creates a team that can win both at home and away. Strength on paper is meaningless if it isn’t converted into performances, even though management should be commended for putting together competitive teams. On paper, good teams have frequently failed to advance to the finals. “The real work starts now; being well-prepared must translate into being at your best during the most important parts of the tournament,” he continued.
