Cricket fans were urged by Aakash Chopra to commend Gautam Gambhir, India’s head coach, for the team’s incredible achievement in the Twenty20 International format. The former Test opener stated that Gambhir’s role to revolutionising batting in the shortest format should be acknowledged by those who condemned him for the team’s poor performances in Tests and ODIs.
According to Chopra, 48, it took the Men in Blue a while to realise that the key to success in T20 cricket is to play fearlessly. He praised Gambhir for changing the players’ perspective.
“Gautam Gambhir is deserving of recognition.
Why hesitate to praise while we don’t hesitate to criticise? I’m referring to India’s T20 batting strategy. That strategy is reality, not the future. We didn’t realise it right away. It was the same formula. If you play without fear, you can accomplish this with 11 players and 20 overs. In a video posted on “X,” Chopra stated, “India weren’t able to do it before.”
In the current five-match Twenty20 International series, Chopra feels that New Zealand’s enthusiasm was discouraged by India’s extremely aggressive batting strategy. Opposition teams now believe that even a 300-run goal may not be sufficient to defeat India, he continued.
“ODI and T20I series are still played. India’s strategy has evolved, but New Zealand’s bowling unit hasn’t. The opposition’s resolve was broken the instant we began to dominate and decimate. Now they’re arguing that because this team is different, even 300 might not be enough,” Chopra continued.
In Test and ODI matches, India has fluctuated greatly under Gambhir’s coaching. In T20Is, nevertheless, they have completely destroyed other teams. Going into the next T20 World Cup, the Men in Blue had won nine consecutive T20I series. This includes the current series in New Zealand, where India has already established an unbeatable 3-0 lead.
