According to Shivam Dube, Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of India, has encouraged his team to take on new challenges in the Asia Cup 2025, which kicks off in the United Arab Emirates on September 9.
Along with Oman, Pakistan, and the host United Arab Emirates, India has been assigned to Group A. Their campaign will begin on September 10 against the United Arab Emirates. Meanwhile, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, and Sri Lanka are in Group B.
Every player has heard the coach say the same thing over and over. In a video released by the BCCI, Dube stated, “Every time you play for the country, you have the opportunity to do something new.”
Shubman Gill’s return to the T20I squad is the main topic of conversation for India. Axar Patel was replaced as vice-captain by the opener, who last played in the format in July 2024, indicating that the management wants to promote him to all-format captain in the near future.
Across all formats, the 25-year-old has been in incredible form. He helped the Gujarat Titans reach the playoffs in the 2025 Indian Premier League by smashing 650 runs at an average of 50 and a strike rate of 155.88. When he led India to a 2-2 draw in England as captain for the first time, he further demonstrated his red-ball prowess by scoring 754 runs at an incredible average of 75.40.
Extremely enthusiastic. It’s a fantastic group, in my opinion. Our style of play in Twenty20 cricket has been nothing short of fascinating. “Very glad to be a part of the group,” Gill remarked.
The lineup also includes Jasprit Bumrah, who hasn’t played in Twenty20 Internationals since the 2024 T20 World Cup final in Bridgetown against South Africa. “It feels fantastic. It’s been a while since I joined the T20I team,” Bumrah stated.
“I had some time at home during this three-week timeframe, which was good. This team includes some young individuals with youthful vitality. There are so many wonderful occasions ahead.
