"'Galat Fehmi Dekh Lo!' – Virat Kohli Left Red-Faced After Revisiting 14-Year-Old Comment on Chris Gayle"

After seeing his 14-year-old post-match interview from the 2011 Indian Premier League, star Indian batsman Virat Kohli couldn’t stop giggling. In the video, a youthful Kohli won his first-ever IPL Player of the Match title against the Delhi Daredevils (now the Delhi Capitals) after scoring a brilliant 56 runs off of 38 deliveries.

In front of his home fans in Delhi, the 22-year-old stole the show as he formed a partnership with Chris Gayle and assisted Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in chasing down 162. But fourteen years later, it was his own comments from the post-match interview that drew his attention, not the innings.

“To be completely honest, I had no intention of batting that way. However, I took over from Chris Gayle when I began to hit the ball well. In the old interview, he stated, “That was the plan in the middle so that he could play himself in and I could go for my shots because I was hitting it well.”

The veteran batter felt embarrassed after hearing this and grinned at his words. He brought attention to his misunderstanding at the time as well as the influence of social media in enabling followers to revisit and evaluate the earlier conversations.

“I have no idea what I said. Somewhere, you guys brought it here. Could Chris Gayle make a fool of himself? Whoa! Galat fehmi dekh lo (Observe the miscommunication)! Fans have been scrutinising players’ remarks since the social media explosion, which has gotten way too perverted,” he stated on JioHotstar’s ’18 Calling 18′.

RCB and DC will face off on April 10.

At a strike rate of 154.70, the 36-year-old has amassed 164 runs in four innings during the current season, including two fifties.

Virat Kohli is poised to accomplish yet another feat as RCB gets ready to play the Delhi Capitals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday.

He will become the second player overall (after David Warner) and the first Indian to reach 100 T20 half-centuries if he hits at least 50 runs. In addition, he is the first Indian player and only the fifth player in history to reach the 13,000-run milestone in T20 cricket, having scored 13,050 runs in 403 games. In addition, the batting virtuoso has already hit 998 boundaries in the IPL (720 fours and 278 sixes), and he needs just two more to become the first player in the history of the competition to hit 1,000 boundaries.
