"Frustrating only if you deserve XI" – Shreyas Iyer on Asia Cup snub

Ace Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has stated that he was “frustrated” that he was not chosen for India’s 15-man Asia Cup squad, despite the fact that his recent performances warranted a position. Iyer admitted that he quickly overcame his disappointment despite not even being on the standbys. He said that the team’s victory at the end of the day and everyone’s satisfaction are what really matter.

Only when you know that you deserve to be on the squad and in the starting lineup does it become frustrating. It is annoying at the moment. On the other hand, you support someone when you know they are giving their all and playing for the team on a regular basis.

Shreyas Iyer said on the iQOO podcast, “The ultimate objective is for the team to win, and when the team wins, everyone is happy.”

Shreyas Iyer stated that he aimed to put in a lot of effort off the pitch and develop himself to the point where it would be difficult to overlook his on-field accomplishments.

“You must make sure that you carry out your work in an ethical manner if you are not given the opportunity. You don’t have to perform only for an audience. Whatever occurs on the pitch is simply a mirror of what you do off it when you prepare yourself in a particular way. You will undoubtedly perform in the third game if your preparation is strong and you don’t perform in the first two. I’ve been there,” he continued.

Shreyas Iyer last played for India during their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, where he scored 243 runs in five games to become the team’s top run scorer. In the 2025 Indian Premier League, he went on to score 604 runs in 17 games for the Punjab Kings, helping the club place second.
