The handshake dispute between India and Pakistan has dominated the Asia Cup 2025 thus far. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) petitioned to the ICC to have match referee Andy Pycroft removed from the remaining matches after the Ind side declined to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts during their match on Sunday, September 14.
However, after the Salman Ali Agha-led team threatened to quit the tournament, the ICC rejected PCB’s plea, and the Zimbabwean officiated Pakistan’s match against the UAE on Wednesday, September 17.
In light of what happened, former India captain Kapil Dev believes that cricket should take precedence over such trivial matters.
All of these things are minor. One ought to concentrate on playing cricket. Both parties don’t need to make a huge deal out of it if someone doesn’t want to shake hands. Making incorrect statements is wrong, but some cricket players make provocative remarks. Pakistan needs to improve their cricket game because they didn’t play well. According to India Today, Kapil stated that it is up to the individual whether they wish to embrace or shake hands.
The Super Four match between India and Pakistan is scheduled for September 21 (Sunday) in Dubai.
