'Goes on to show how well the effort he's put in' - Former Indian fielding coach lauds T. Dilip's devotion to the present team

In a similar spirit, Sridhar commended the skill of his replacement, T. Dilip, who has been reappointed as Gautam Gambhir‘s fielding coach. He also emphasised the importance of the job he had done behind the scenes for the squad, saying that the effort he put in was proof of his reappointment.

The well-known adage “class recognises class” is particularly applicable in the sports industry, where a previous athlete, no matter what position they hold, recognises the skill of their successor. R. Sridhar, the former fielding coach of Team India, who held this position from 2014 to 2021, provided an example of this.

It’s impressive that Dilip has been renominated for the position of team fielding coach.

That further demonstrates the calibre of his work and the amount of work done in the background. News18 cited Sridhar as stating, “Many coaches work hard, and so many support staff work hard behind the scenes to ensure that the players are able to create such magic on the pitch.”

In addition, he claimed that the BCCI had rightfully acknowledged him. Sridhar also emphasised Dilip’s invention of the “fielding medal,” which was given out inside the dressing room following every game. He stated that by fostering a sense of passion and motivating players to give it their all, this program greatly improved on-field performance.

“He has been duly rewarded by the BCCI. It goes without saying that Dilip brought a competitive element to the changing room by introducing that fielding medal. We could all see that it improved the players’ performances on the pitch. He’s been granted an extension so richly,” Sridhar went on.

Given his experience, I have no doubt that he will do admirably: Sridhar

Sridhar also counselled his fellow Hyderabadi to persist with his current strategy, stressing the value of going back to the fundamentals and carrying out the routines he has been following since joining the team. He pointed out that Dilip needed to share the new head coach’s vision as well. But Sridhar was confident Dilip would succeed in his role because of his wealth of knowledge and his close relationship with the players.

“There is nothing that he needs to change. All he has to do is carry on with his current activities. He obviously needs to work in accordance with the new head coach’s concept and comprehend what it is. With his background and his rapport with the players, I’m confident he’ll do a fantastic job,” Sridhar said.

India’s three-match T20I series at Pallekele will kick off their trip of Sri Lanka on Saturday. An identical number of ODI matches will thereafter take place in Colombo.
