Lisa Sthalekar, president of the Federation of International Cricketers’ Association (FICA), expressed concern regarding the men’s international cricket schedule. Sthalekar stated that a ‘breaking point’ may be reached if a solution is not found as soon as possible due to the increase in franchise cricket occupying a large portion of the calendar each year.

She went on to say that the International Cricket Council (ICC), cricket administrations, and the FICA have discussed the matter behind closed doors. Sthalekar also acknowledged the growth and benefits of Twenty20 cricket, but he implored the ICC and cricket boards to find a way to alleviate the schedule crunch.

“The game is undergoing tremendous change. These discussions have been taking place for some time behind closed doors [among the ICC, cricket authorities, and FICA]. Things are reaching a point where they may shatter. I am aware that the ICC is communicating with national bodies. We are also communicating with the ICC. Sthalekar was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as stating, “We will have to see how that plays out.”

“We all recognize the advantages of T20 cricket. We recognize that participants have a limited opportunity to maximize their earnings. Many of our players appreciate bilateral cricket, ICC competitions, and T20 leagues. We are aware that the men’s schedule is becoming increasingly packed,” she added.

“We are imploring the ICC and national boards to collaborate because this issue cannot be resolved immediately. Sthalekar concluded, “Certainly, the players would like to play a role in finding a solution that allows everyone to have their cake and eat it too.”

According to reports, numerous IPL franchise proprietors have negotiated long-term contracts with international players. This would essentially imply that the franchise owner would be their primary employer, as opposed to the board or the nation they represent. According to reports, the Mumbai Indians have offered Jofrey Archer a similar contract.

In addition, the significant increase in games has resulted in a jam-packed schedule due to the expansion of league cricket worldwide. However, it remains to be seen whether the ICC and the boards will issue an official statement regarding the international schedule.
