After his name was put to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy alongside Sachin Tendulkar’s, former English cricketer James Anderson said that he does not believe he is on par with the latter. Following the Pataudi Trophy’s recent rebranding as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy for Test matches between England and India, Anderson made these remarks.
After hearing what the renowned fast bowler had accomplished over the course of his lengthy career, James Anderson later went into further detail about his feelings.
“Seeing myself with him and the award makes me feel totally out of place. I think so highly of him, as I mentioned. It’s odd that when people discuss my accomplishments in cricket, it seems like they’re talking about someone else, if that makes sense. Like, I don’t think I’m the one who accomplished all of this. I know it sounds weird, but that’s the way my mind functions.
Speaking on Sky Sports, James Anderson said, “I just can’t quite believe the things that come with playing for so long.”
The 42-year-old had previously stated that having his name linked to Tendulkar on the trophy was a special moment for him and his family. At this point, the current England-India five-match series had not yet begun.
The hosts are ahead 2-1 after the first three games of the current series, speaking on how it has gone thus far. After losing by five wickets in the series opener at Headingley, the Shubman Gill-led India pulled off a stunning victory at Edgbaston by 336 runs to tie the series.
Nevertheless, in the last session of the fifth day, England won the third Test of the series at Lord’s by a margin of 22 runs. On July 23, the following game will take place at Manchester’s Old Trafford. In the fifth and final match at the Oval, the visitors will be trying to tie the score once more so that everything is on the line.
