Fatima Sana, the captain of Pakistan, will captain the team for the first time at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which kicks off on September 30. The gifted all-round player is focused on boosting Pakistan’s performances following their lacklustre showings in past tournaments. She is motivated to make a big impression and is well aware of the tournament’s importance. Her ultimate objective is to lead the team to their first-ever top four finish.
Since their debut in 1997, Pakistan has participated in five Women’s ODI World Cups. They have only won three of those campaigns, though, and their most recent victory was in 2022 against the West Indies.
The young players understand the significance of this competition for Pakistan women’s cricket, thus this time the jinx will undoubtedly be broken. We won’t dwell on the past.
“I want to lead the team to the semifinals,” Fatima Sana stated, according to ICC.
The team has already displayed encouraging results under Fatima Sana direction, most notably their undefeated streak in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2025, which guaranteed them a spot in the main event. The 33-year-old praised the ICC’s announcement of record prize money for the Women’s World Cup, calling it a significant advancement for women’s cricket that would inspire young people to play the game.
Girls now play cricket in Pakistani schools, and live broadcasts of international matches are available. By raising the prize money for the Women’s World Cup, ICC has also taken a wise step that will encourage upcoming athletes in Pakistan. However, we still need to overcome a barrier in this competition,” she added.
On October 2, the Women in Green will play their first match of the season against Bangladesh at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
