At his father Ashok Kumar Yadav’s retirement ceremony, cricket star Suryakumar Yadav recently gave a moving statement. His father worked as a physicist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) till the event.
As he entertained the crowd and paid homage to his father’s journey, India’s T20I skipper talked with a mix of comedy, love, and nostalgia. He took time to recognise his father’s accomplishments and wish him luck in the future when he is in incredible form in the IPL 2025. His father’s well-wishers took notice after a video of his address went viral.
“Some lovely videos were playing on the screen. I had no idea he was such a talented singer! He never sang, as far as I can tell. However, it’s obvious that he must have performed some beautiful songs for my mother when my sister and I weren’t present,” Suryakumar Yadav remarked.
“You now have endless time to amuse your mother. Every wonderful adventure has to end, so the saying goes. It has truly been a fairy story for you. You’ve had amazing companions and individuals who genuinely cared for you. We’ll try our best to make your second innings as spectacular as the first, even though this chapter is coming to a close,” he continued.

My father is my superhero: Suryakumar Yadav
The star batsman continued by thanking his father for all of the help and advice he received during his cricket career. Additionally, he acknowledged that his father has always been a superhero in real life.
“There’s always that one role model that teaches you how to live and learn, like Superman. That person is my father, in my opinion. He has been there for me from the beginning. He packed my tiffin, dropped me off at school so I wouldn’t bunk, and escorted me to college to ensure I didn’t scale the walls and vanish, but I had no idea where my adventure would take me,” Suryakumar continued.

The cricket player for the Mumbai Indians also emphasised the capacity to maintain a clear separation between business and home life, which he believes is the most significant life lesson he learnt from his father. He sent his best wishes for his father’s retirement and highlighted how happy the family is to be able to spend more time together.
“He never allowed his actions at work to influence how he behaved at home. I genuinely respect that and make an effort to emulate it. I simply want to send him my warmest wishes for this new phase of his life. Now, I’m hoping he can devote all of his attention to us. At last, my mother, who has been his rock, will be able to share this stage with him. All I have to say is, “Aao, let’s head back home,” he said.
