According to Faruque Ahmed, president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, the national government has requested that he resign from his position.
On Wednesday (May 28), Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, the Youth and Sports Affairs Adviser, called Faruque, who assumed the role of board president after Nazmul Hasan left on August 21.
Cricbuzz is aware that Faruque Ahmed was made aware of their plan at the meeting.
Faruque Ahmed acknowledged the situation and stated that he has not yet made up his mind about resigning.
Faruque Ahmed told Cricbuzz on Thursday, “The advisor said that they don’t want to continue with me,” “As for my resignation, I haven’t made a choice yet. Let’s observe what occurs.
In the event that Faruque Ahmed does not step down, things could get complicated. It may be considered government meddling if he is fired without resigning, which is against the International Cricket Council’s principles. Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka were previously banned by the ICC for government meddling.
Aminul Islam, a former national captain, is reportedly the front-runner to succeed Faruque Ahmed. According to information obtained, Aminul, who now serves as the development officer for ICC, will request a three-month leave of absence from his position in order to run for the position of board president in the upcoming October election.
Since Aminul’s arrival in Dhaka earlier this week, there has been a great deal of conjecture about the BCB regime shift.
Cricbuzz is aware of Aminul also met with high-ranking government officials to discuss a number of topics, including his assumption of the BCB presidency. Faruque was the BCB chief selector for two times, from 2003 to 2007 and from 2013 to 2016. He played seven One-Day Internationals for Bangladesh. He had left his position as chief selector before serving out his second term. This was due to his inability to accept the three-member selection panel’s expansion.
Faruque Ahmed and Nazmul Abedin, a well-known local coach who recently voiced disapproval of the BCB board, were named new directors by the National Sports Council (NSC). They attended the board of directors meeting at the Ministry of Youth and Sports after the announcement.
This action follows the NSC’s appointment of Faruque and Nazmul in place of former directors Jalal Yunus and Ahmed Sajjadul Alam. Alam declined to resign, leaving the decision up to the NSC’s judgement, whereas Yunus resigned. Following Nazmul’s decision to resign from his fourth term as head of the nation’s cricket governing body, the action was taken.
Since the country’s turmoil started due to student demonstrations against the recently ousted Sheikh Hasina government, Nazmul and his spouse have been in London.
