The public claims that Faruque Ahmed, the board president and former cricket player for Bangladesh, is in charge of everything. Due to several corruption and unethical scandals that have occurred this season, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been in complete disarray for the past few years.
Faruque Ahmed replaced Nazmul Hasan, who was forced to resign from his position and leave the country due to political unrest brought on by the Student Movement’s affiliation with the Awami League. Faruque has made the decision to continue running in the election despite all of the issues and accusations, claiming that some are attempting to discredit him and that he wants to fight the election because resigning from his position won’t help the board in any way. He also stated that he will work to eradicate corruption completely.
“I believe that some people are still attempting to discredit me because they were involved in wrongdoing on the Board. According to what I understand, their easiest task is to assume that I am such a man that I will quit if four columns are written against me that are based on false information. Faruque Ahmed was cited on Khaled Mohiuddin’s show Thikana as saying, “There is a game that they are playing on purpose, and now, I am thinking I will try to fight in the election because the problem will not be solved if I quit.”
Until my last day, I will work to eradicate corruption from cricket: Faruque Ahmed
All I can say is that if I remain in this role, I would work to eradicate corruption from cricket till the day I die. “I think you will have to leave it for another episode (future) as you will need time to understand the complexities of the election,” the former Bangladeshi cricket player continued.
Regarding Faruque Ahmed background in cricket, he has represented the Bangla Tigers in seven One-Day Internationals. Despite having a brief international career, he made contributions to the board throughout his two periods as Chief Selector, from 2003 to 2007 and 2013 to 2016. He was unable to finish his second term since he resigned because he did not agree with the three-member selection panel’s enlargement.
