Sahibzada Farhan, the opener for Pakistan, has justified his contentious on-field celebration against India in the current Asia Cup Super 4 match, saying it was a personal celebration rather than a politically driven one.
In order to support his argument during his submission at the ICC hearing on Friday, Farhan referenced previous similar celebrations by former Indian captains Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni.
He also added that such gestures are a typical part of Pathans’ celebrations and a common cultural expression.
After the BCCI complained to the ICC about Sahibzada’s bat-as-gun celebration after hitting a half-century against India in Dubai, he attended the formal hearing. Pacer Haris Rauf’s act, which was deemed provocative in light of the recent geopolitical and cross-border tensions between the two countries, was also criticised by the BCCI. Rauf made a 6-0 hand gesture and acted out a jet being shot down while fielding close to the boundary.
It is acknowledged that both players may be subject to fines that range from fifty to one hundred percent of their match fees.
