CPL 2024: Fakhar Zaman will return to Pakistan for the Champions Cup domestic tournament

Fakhar Zaman, the opening batsman for Pakistan, is scheduled to leave the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2024) to take part in the first-ever Champions One-Day Cup in Pakistan. In his brief CPL tenure, Zaman, who plays for the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, has had a big influence.

He has amassed 83 runs in just two games. But the Falcons’ lineup is severely lacking with his departure. The PCB, directed by Mohsin Naqvi, has introduced a new project called the Champions One-Day Cup, which will take place at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad from September 12 to 29, 2024.

Strengthening the nation’s cricketing talent pool is the goal of this domestic cricket competition. The objective is to develop players to the highest level of proficiency so they can represent the country in future international competitions. The five teams competing in the competition are the Dolphins, Lions, Panthers, Stallions, and Wolves. Legendary cricket players will serve as mentors for each team to help them grow and improve.

Other Pakistani cricket players will play in the CPL while Fakhar Zaman returns home. According to insiders, Azam Khan, a batsman who keeps wickets, is not expected to be included in any Champions One-Day Cup squad and would likely stick with his CPL team. Similarly, after retiring from ODIs, Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim will still be playing in the CPL.

The Pakistan board is attempting to reorganise domestic cricket in order to attract new players who eventually represent the national team. Notable players including as Sarfaraz Ahmed, Misbah-ul-Haq, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Malik, and Saqlain Mushtaq have been added as team mentors.

“I am happy to announce that the Champions Cup teams will have five outstanding champions serving as mentors. The passion these people have for the game we all love, along with their abundance of cricketing experience, knowledge, and expertise, will assist the Pakistan Cricket Board find, develop, and support the next generation of cricket players in all formats.
