Faf du Plessis, one of the most renowned foreign players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and a former captain of South Africa, has declared that he will not be participating in the next IPL 2026 mini-auction. Faf du Plessis concluded his unforgettable 14-year tenure with the competition on November 29 by making the disclosure on social media. Rather, du Plessis has decided to participate in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL).
“I have chosen not to enter my name in the auction this year after playing in the IPL for 14 seasons. When I think back on it, I am really grateful for this massive decision. A significant portion of my journey has been this league. Playing for incredible teams, with elite teammates, and in front of fervent supporters has been an incredible experience for me. It’s been fourteen years, and I’m proud of the significance this chapter has held for me. “This isn’t a farewell; you’ll see me again,” du Plessis wrote in a social media post. “India holds a special place in my heart.”

In 2012, Faf du Plessis made his IPL debut for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
After scoring 398 runs in his debut season, he developed into a vital member of CSK’s core and helped the team win the 2018 and 2021 IPL championships. His most notable seasons with CSK and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) took place between 2020 and 2024. Notably, he finished just two runs behind starting pair Ruturaj Gaikwad in the 2021 season, barely missing out on the Orange Cap.
He was given leadership for the 2022, 2023, and 2024 seasons by RCB when CSK released him prior to the 2022 mega auction. He was a great leader in this capacity. In 14 games during the 2023 season, Faf du Plessis amassed 730 runs. He joined the Delhi Capitals prior to the 2025 season, although he was only able to score 202 runs at an average of 22.44. In 154 games across 14 IPL seasons, South Africa has amassed 4,773 runs at an average of 35.09 and a strike rate of 135.78. Additionally, he documented 39 half-centuries.
