Ex-England Captain Heather Knight Aims for Comeback in Upcoming ODI World Cup

In order to recover from a hamstring tendon injury she sustained last month, former England captain Heather Knight has set her sights on the ODI World Cup in October. After sustaining the injury during the T20I series against the West Indies, the right-handed hitter was unable to play in the series against India.

Heather Knight told the PA news agency, “That World Cup is what I’m aiming for, that’s what I have my sights set on.”

“Rehab always has its setbacks, but hopefully everything works out and I can return in early September to play a little cricket before the World Cup.”

In an effort to be healthy in time for the international event later this year, Heather Knight will also miss the forthcoming The Hundred Women’s.

Things are moving along quite nicely, so perhaps we’ll be ready for the World Cup. It’s recovering nicely. We will not rush things. I tore the tendon pretty far off the bone, so I have to be a little cautious when I return,” Knight continued. “It’s a very horrific injury.”

On June 28 (Saturday), the England women’s T20I series against India begins at Trent Bridge with five matches.
