The return of their previous captain, Graeme Cremer, to the starting lineup might be a huge boost for Zimbabwe. Since March 2018, the seasoned leg-spinner has not participated in an international game. Before switching from cricket to golf, Cremer captained the national team from 2016 to 2018.
Graeme Cremer left cricket behind and moved to the United Arab Emirates with his wife, Merna, an airline pilot. In the 45-over club league known as Zimbabwe’s National Premier League, the 38-year-old has recently returned to action.
Graeme Cremer is eligible to be selected for the national team and may be considered for the T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe in September, according to an ESPNcricinfo report.
For those who don’t know, Graeme Cremer has been actively involved in coaching in Dubai, including with the Rajasthan Royals Academy, throughout the last eight years. After two games, he is the top wicket-taker for Takashinga Patriots 1 Cricket Club, the reigning champions.
“It feels great to be back. It was fantastic to walk out and be a member of Takashinga, such a prestigious club, as Kwekwe was my home pitch for many years. I got accepted into the team, and the atmosphere was fantastic.
After the game against Queens Sports Club in Kwekwe, Graeme Cremer told 3-mob.com, “I’m really happy with the start.”
Takashinga won by 134 runs after defending a 264-run mark, while Cremer scored a four-for and gave up 43 runs. Brendan Taylor, who has since returned to the Test team after serving a three-and-a-half-year ban for violating the ICC’s anti-corruption policy, was also involved in that August 3 match. Taylor demonstrated that he still has a lot of cricket left in him by scoring 61 in that game. Cremer talked about how it was unique for him to once again play alongside Taylor.
“Being on the pitch with Brendan again and watching him get some runs was a great experience because we are good friends. We’ve played a lot of cricket together, so it’s fantastic to watch him bat and then go out onto the pitch with him. It’s simply how we connect. “Having someone like that with me is really beneficial,” Cremer remarked.
To date, Cremer has participated in 19 Test matches, 96 One-Day Internationals, and 29 Twenty20 Internationals, taking 57, 119, and 35 wickets in each of those competitions. With the African nation hoping for a successful Africa Regional Qualifier campaign for the next T20 World Cup from September 26 to October 4, his comeback will significantly strengthen Zimbabwe’s bowling lineup.
