“Even if it is 1%, there is hope at least,” Gautam Gambhir praises Babar Azam for his perseverance in securing a World Cup semi-final position.

"A leader's duty is to believe that it ain't over till it's over, whether it is one or half a percent hope," Gambhir stated.

Prior to their last World Cup group-stage match, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam voiced optimism about his team’s chances of qualifying for the semifinals. Former India batter Gautam Gambhir praised Azam for this. Pakistan and England, the reigning champions, will face off on Saturday, November 11 at Kolkata’s famous Eden Gardens. The Men in Green will have virtually no chance if they bat second and must defeat the Englishmen by a large margin of about 287 runs to secure their semifinal berth ahead of New Zealand.

When questioned about his thoughts on Babar Azam upbeat statement during the press conference, Gambhir said that the 29-year-old’s remarks were “exceptional” and that he had every right to express his confidence because he is the ship’s captain.

It’s undoubtedly an uphill battle, but what do you expect from a leader? In the press conference, what should he say? Should he indicate that they wish to go back and that they have accepted their defeat?

As the head of state, he is entitled to express his confidence during the press conference. At least there is hope, even if it is only 1%. Cricket is a game where anything may happen, yet they are still in it. Thus, in my opinion, the press conference was outstanding,” Gambhir stated on Star Sports.

Gautam Gambhir says Pakistan has nothing to lose.

The former cricket player turned pundit continued, saying that Babar is demonstrating what it means for a leader to think the fight is far from done. In their upcoming match against England, Pakistan can play with confidence, the 42-year-old stated.

“What we write or say on social media is irrelevant. Whether there is a 1% or 5% chance, a leader must have faith that the fight isn’t done until it is. If you get to bat first, you go out and play and aim to score 400. Pakistan actually has nothing to lose. The former cricket player said, “At least they have in their mind that they need to score over 450 and dismiss them for under 200, even if they get bowled out for 200 or 250 while trying to score 400.”
