The organizers announced on Tuesday, March 18, that Dublin, Ireland, and Rotterdam, the Netherlands, will host the European T20 Premier League (ETPL), a new franchise-based competition on the continent. The International Cricket Council (ICC)-approved 33-match competition for six teams will take place from July 15 to August 8.
With six franchise teams, two in each of Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands, and eight home players in addition to a development player representing a European nation, the league—which was conceived as a special partnership between these three countries—will place a significant emphasis on developing local and regional talent.
“Unlike other leagues typically supported by a single national board, the ETPL boasts the unified backing of Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland, and Cricket Netherlands, demonstrating an unprecedented level of collaboration and commitment to growing the game across the region,” the league stated.
With the ability to interact with the whole European market (except from England), the ETPL provides unmatched market depth.
