English white-ball cricket has been away off for quite some time now: Nasser Hussain

India’s four-wicket loss to England in the opening ODI of the current white-ball series was their most recent setback. The hosts took a 1-0 lead at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur after chasing the 249-run goal with 68 deliveries remaining. They need to win the next game if they want to survive the series.

Former English captain Nasser Hussain recently discussed how England’s previous defeats in India followed a similar pattern.

It has taken comparable routes, hasn’t it? Even in the Twenty20 Internationals, there have been times when they have been in the game followed by a foolish error like that [around Phil Salt’s run-out in the first ODI]. Then spin begins. Ravindra Jadeja bowls with grace. They lost the Twenty20 Internationals, and they also lost many of those matches due to spin,” Hussain said on the Sky Sports Cricket podcast.

Whoever India chooses, they are a fantastic side: Nasser Hussain

Hussain compared the English team’s limited-overs scene with the Indian team’s, analysing the disparate current situations.

Since India won the T20 World Cup in the World Cup final in Ahmedabad, they are undoubtedly a strong white-ball team. The depth of Indian cricket is another. In the Twenty20 Internationals, Abhishek Sharma was a fantastic player! Returning inside is Shubman Gill. Virat Kohli is not a player. Whatever they choose, they are a fantastic side.

However, English white-ball cricket has been far removed from its previous state under [Eoin] Morgan and [Trevor] Bayliss for a considerable amount of time.

In my opinion, the next few months will be crucial,” he continued.

England has won 11 of the 22 Twenty20 Internationals since the beginning of 2024. In relation to the 50-over format, they have achieved success in three of nine cases. The Three Lions must band together and try to regain their form as the Champions Trophy approaches.
