In the first ODI at Trent Bridge, Harry Brook won his first toss as England captain and decided to bat first against an Australia side that had been afflicted with a stomach ailment for the previous few days.
At the toss, Australia’s captain, Mitchell Marsh, announced, “We have 11!” Among them is 30-year-old left-arm seamer Ben Dwarshuis of the Sydney Sixers and New South Wales.
In the absence of Australia’s major three seamers, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa, who will be playing in his 100th ODI, will be an even more important part of their attack in this match.

In the wake of their catastrophic World Cup defence in India last year, England is very much focused on rebirth. While Jos Buttler recovers from a long-term calf injury, Brook fills in for him. Meanwhile, Jacob Bethell makes his second debut in as many weeks, adding an ODI cap to his T20I debut against the same opponents in Southampton.
For the first time in eighteen months, Jofra Archer will be leading the line in the format. Reece Topley, who apparently became unwell over night, will not be playing; instead, Matthew Potts will take his place.

In his first season as captain, Brook has claimed that he will toss the ball with a typically non-nonsense manner. “Put a little pressure on them in the first innings and try to get a big score,” he stated. “Have a lot of fun and look to take wickets.”
