The team for the England and Wales Cricket Board‘s five-match T20I series against the Indian Women has been revealed. The series will run from June 28 to July 12. Sophie Ecclestone, who caused Sarah Glenn to be left out of the squad, will return to the 14-man roster.
Trent Bridge on June 28, Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol on July 1, the Kia Oval on July 4, the Emirates Old Trafford on July 9, and Edgbaston on July 12 will host the series’ five Twenty20 Internationals. The schedule and squads for the three-match ODI series that will follow the T20I series have not yet been released.
Speaking candidly about the team, Charlotte Edwards stated that she was excited to play the Indian Women. She thought that the squad needed to improve in a few areas, even though she was pleased with their victory over the West Indies Women. Prior to the ODI and T20 World Cups, Edwards thought it would be crucial.
“We’re quite excited to play against India. It will be a great test for us, as they are among the finest sides in the world. We’re constantly striving to improve, so while there were many things to be pleased about in the West Indies series, there were also many areas we wanted to keep improving on. Five matches against India in front of large audiences at fantastic locations will be really beneficial to us,” Edwards stated, according to ecb.co.uk.
“Unfortunately, we can’t play everyone,” Edwards said of the England team.
The head coach of the England women’s team stated that Sarah Glenn had no place in the squad, notwithstanding her happiness at Ecclestone’s return. The elite player needs to return to the Blaze and perform well in the Vitality Blast in order to rejoin the team, she continued.
“With the countdown to the home ICC Women’s T20 World Cup well under way, this is a big series for us. We’re excited to have Soph back in the group, and it’s nice to see her again. She will be a benefit to us and has clear qualities,” the England women’s head coach continued.
We are lucky to have a talented set of spinners, but we are unable to play them all, so Sarah Glenn does lose out. “Sarah now has a fantastic chance to return to The Blaze and play competitive cricket in the Vitality Blast,” Edwards said.
The England women’s team will play the Indian women’s team in five Twenty20 Internationals.
