The England women have announced their squad for the forthcoming Women’s Ashes 2023, which is scheduled to commence at Trent Bridge on June 22.
Notably, Lauren Filer and Danielle Gibson have achieved their first test selections and have been included in the 15-person squad. In contrast, all-rounder Danielle Gibson is very likely to earn her first uniform after tying for the most runs scored and most wickets in the recently concluded Charlotte Edwards Cup.
Notably, the cricketer was part of the team that travelled to South Africa earlier in the year for the T20 World Cup, but she was a reserve and thus never had a chance to make the main squad. However, due to her recent success, she is anticipated to be included in the starting lineup against Australia.
Heather Knight (captain), Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Bell, Alice Capsey, Kate Cross, Alice Davidson-Richards, Sophia Dunkley, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Filer, Danielle Gibson, Amy Jones, Emma Lamb, Nat Sciver-Bruns, Issy Wong, and Danielle Wyatt comprise the squad.
Gibson, who plays for Western Storm, recently scored fifty against the Sunrisers. However, red-ball cricket is an entirely distinct ball game, so the cricketer must be cautious in her approach. In contrast, 22-year-old Lauren Filer has laboured in recent races, but she has the pedigree to succeed. Interestingly, Filer represented Western Storm in the tournament alongside Gibson.
Meanwhile, England Women’s will face Australia A in a three-day warm-up match prior to the crucial Ashes. The objective is to develop match fitness, as the team has not played Test cricket in quite some time. Notably, the match will be contested from June 15 to 17 at Incora County Ground in Derbyshire. Alice Davidson-Richards and Danielle Wyatt will represent England A in the warm-up matches, and based on their performance, the team management will determine whether they can be included in the starting XI.
