Michael Atherton anticipates that England will play strongly on Day 2 against India and that the visitors will rally.

On the opening day of the second Test match between India and England in Vizag, the Indian hitters, especially Yashasvi Jaiswal, grabbed the show. On the opening day, India scored 336/6 thanks to a 179-run blitz by Jaiswal. Despite this, Michael Atherton, a former cricketer for England, is unconcerned because he believes the visitors will rally with their forceful batting in the second innings.

The 55-year-old stated that Ollie Pope, who scored 196 runs in the second innings of the first Test in Hyderabad, would provide the team with a great deal of confidence. He stated that India would want to score 400–450 runs in the opening session, but England should focus on bundling them early and making the most of the surface, which has really benefited the hitters on Day 1.

India will have designs on a 400–450 score while Jaiswal is there. Although it’s never a terrible first-inning score, England won’t be concerned. You constantly consider the circumstances and speculate on the outcome. The pitch is undoubtedly less concerning than it was during the first inning in Hyderabad. Atherton stated on Sky Sports that England’s hitters will be fairly confident of scoring a run themselves because of the confidence they gained from Ollie Pope and the other players’ performances in the first Test.

England is devoted to playing in an aggressive manner, which sets them apart from India’s style of play.

This is why you will see them playing that way. The differences in style between England’s and India’s top six are pretty striking, he continued. If the pitch in Hyderabad eventually gives way, Atherton said, it will do so later in the match rather than when England is batting. He is confident that the Ben Stokes-led team in Vizag will counter India with their aggressive batting. India, meanwhile, would anticipate a protracted partnership between Jaiswal and Ravichandran Ashwin. The objective would be to bat for as long as possible because it is anticipated to fracture starting on Day 3.
